Low Key Lighting.
Low key lighting is used in most thrillers, this is because it adds an eerie feel to the movies. It is mostly dark and the dark is linked to evil meanings- most of the time when it is pitch black that is when the most gruesome things happen. I have used the following movies: The conjuring,Along came a spider and When a stranger calls.
Sound
Sound is a big part in a thriller. The sound used in movies can hint to the audience what the genre is and it helps with setting the atmosphere. Even before the audience sees any images on the screen if they hear the music is will help them guess what genre. In most movies they use ambient sound to go along with the images on the screen. I used Vertigo,Inception and Memento.
Extreme Close-Ups(ECU)
Most of the time ECU are used to show detail in a movie and that is exactly what they do in thrillers. Most of the time they do close ups on a characters body part to show what they are really thinking, this is mostly done with the eyes. This is because it is said that if you look into somebodies eyes you see their soul and that is what the director wants with the audience this them makes it able for the audience to empathize with the character therefore drawing them deeper into the movie.
Setting
In most thrillers the setting is shown because it adds effect to the movie and helps the audience build up their feelings on the movie
