Q6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I had never done any media related subjects so everything we did in and out of class was new to me, I did not know how to use Adobe premier pro let alone Blogger but through out this process I have learned to use many more technologies.

Research and planning blog, Audience feedback and Evaluation Blog

Through the creation of my research and planning blog I used the following technologies:
  • Blogger
  • Prezi
  • Exam time
  • YouTube
  • Tube Chop
  • Adobe Premier Pro
  • The Macs
  • DSLR
  • Tripod
  • Microsoft word

Out of the above technologies I had not used blogger, prezzi, exam time, tube chop, adobe premier pro, the DSLR camera ,the macs and a tripod ever before. At the beginning i thought that the Macs would be the hardest to use because there was a lot that you could produce on them as well as a lot to learn to do with them. On  the Macs I got to learn that even simple things like saving a document was a task and there was a right way to do. A technology that tested my skills was Adobe premier pro because there a variety of ways in which you could change a sequence, through transitions, transformations , sound and so much  more.  When it came to being creative technologies such as prezzi and exam time have given the freedom to be really creative and express my ideas in many different ways. The most time consuming technologies I have come across would have to be Blogger and Adobe premier pro and this is because the technologies require you to spend time planning something all the way till the end and then go through it again. I have had to repeat things multiple times on Adobe Premier Pro because I did not do it right or save it in the right way.

Opening sequence:
  • DSLR camera

  • Tripod

I used the technologies above to film the opening sequence. I was very nervous to use the camera because it is very fragile but it is hard to place the shot in the right way, however i had to overcome my fear because I was the person who filmed the whole opening sequence. I had to re film multiple shots because some of the shots were either too shaky, out of focus or simply that the lighting was not the right type. Both of the above technologies were new to me.

The music for your opening sequence:
  • Sound cloud
  • Garage band

We had to find music that was copy right free and we did this by using the two above means. Sound cloud is a place where people make music ans upload it for public hearing, where as garage band is an Apple application where you make your own music. I made the music that accompanied the production logo in garage band. Garage band was an extreme challenge because there are so many ways in which you can make a certain sound but you would have to pay attention to what beats per minute. Another hard thing about Garage band is how to save a file once you are done. I found out how to do this by watching a tutorial on YouTube.

That is the sound I made.

If all these technologies did not exist then we would not be able to create any of the material we were able to do. Plus if the camera's were not such a good quality then our work would not reflect what was on our story boards.

Final opening sequence : The Unknown

The video below is the final opening sequence that myself and my other group members worked on. Through out the my blog the images, screen shots, and story boards do not relate to this opening sequence because they were all of the previous ideas that the group had come up with. We faced difficulties in putting our ideas onto the screen as an opening sequence so we had to re-start. The main idea that we kept from the start would be that the female would the antagonist which goes against the main stream conventions.

Evaluation sheet

This is the marking that my teacher carried out on my blog. It shows that I have a lot of improvements that I need to do. Overall, in the posts that I did complete I achieved high levels in so what I mostly have to do is complete the blogs, add information and make it more visual that I had done before.

Q5: How did you attract/address your audience?

This is a screen cast video comparing what our target audience wanted to find in a thriller and what we did to actually cater to their demands. Their responses were able to guide us to what they wanted. We ask them 5 different questions which had to do with setting, character appearance and the tone they would like to be created.

The video above is the vox pop video - this was when we showed our target audience our completed opening sequence and we wanted to see what they thought about it and whether we catered for our target audience needs

This is my directors commentary which I made and this gives the audience insight and understanding as to why we used certain shots and what effect that had.

Q4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

In order for us to reach our conclusion on who the audience would be we carried out some audience research in which we asked our target audience: both genders and 16-25 on what they would like to see in a thriller and we tried our best to cater to their comments. We did this through vox pop videos in which we interviewed 5 people and asked them structured questions. From what we interpreted this is who our target audience would be:

This is the description with the Demographics of our target Audience.

This image gives a rough idea of the type of person we try to target. The Psychographics of this character are seen when she has head phones on meaning that the character enjoys listening to music, and pop corn shows that the character like going to the cinema, plus the remote in her hand signifying television. She is wearing roller stakes to show that she likes to be thrilled and adventurous. This is also shown in her shocking hair color.

The video above helps build the profile of what our target audience would be like. It shows the interests of our target audience. Our audience might like thrillers because they get the blood pumping like the theme parks in the video and they are also unpredictable - this can be seen in our opening sequence because the antagonist is a female character which is against the convention.

Our target audience could be an innovator: Self-confident risk-takers, seeking new and different things. They could be interested in movies like Inception,Seven and The Inside Man. They could also be interested in books like The Da Vinci Code and many more Dan Brown books.
